BORDERLINE HARDY PERENNIAL
HEIGHT AND SPREAD 1M+
FL. JUNE -NOVEMBER
One of the most beautiful blues in a family in which there a lot of contenders! - this stunning plant from Oaxaca in Mexico has huge vine leaf shaped furry leaves - hence vitifolia - and then sprays of the most intense blue flowers. Closely related to s. patens - that other blue prima donna.
Hardiness - again I would say -3 in a well drained sunny spot in southern UK but these plants also produce a tuber when mature so that can be lifted and stored like a dahlia. Or you can root some 'insurance' cuttings.... If in any doubt over winter frost free.
